Multi-factor authentication

Sections in this article

Multi-factor authentication (also known as MFA) is an extra layer of security that requires the user to authenticate with an additional factor to prove their identity. Instead of asking exclusively for their e-mail address and their password, the user will need to provide an additional one-time temporary code (TOTP) generated by an authenticator app such as Aegis or Google Authenticator.

These six-digit codes are generated from a secret key and expire after a few seconds, so the chance of guessing them is much lower than a password.

Enabling MFA

To enable multifactor authentication on your account, select “My user account” on the menu in the top right corner of the dashboard and under the “Multi-factor authentication” press the blue “Enable MFA” button.

First, you’ll be shown a QR code for you to scan on your authenticator app, in order to import WiLake’s account there. If you can’t scan QR codes for some reason, the secret key is also provided. Copy it and paste it on the corresponding box in your authenticator.

Finally, once you see a code is generated, enter it in WiLake. This way, we ensure everything is working properly, and MFA will be activated.

Signing in with MFA

When signing in to WiLake, you’ll now be prompted to enter an authentication code on new or unremembered devices. Enter the newest code generated by the application, and continue as usual.
